The Fédération Internationale des Corps et Associations Consulaires, FICAC , also called World Federation of Consuls, was founded in Copenhagen on 2 October 1982. First signatories were Finland, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. FICAC gives consuls of the world a forum to share experiences and to enhance their effectiveness, and to bring together Consular Associations and Corps from all around the globe. Today FICAC has over 87 member – associations and affiliated members. World Congresses and General Meetings are held every three years.

The World Federation of Consuls has United Nations recognition as an NGO with ECOSOC Status. It is recognized as an NGO by the Organization of American States. It is also recognized as an NGO at the European Union. On 17th September 2010, the World Federation of Consuls signed a partnership agreement with the Prince Albert II Foundation of Monaco, a Foundation created by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II to work in the fields of environment and climate change.

The aim of F.U.E.C.H. is to encourage the ties among the various Consular Associations, to promote positive relations with the respective receiving states as well as with the Institutions of the European Union. The Federation of European Union Honorary Consuls was founded on 17th April, 2004 in Grenoble/ France by its founding members, the national consular associations of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Slovenia. The cooperation within the Federation is based upon ties of mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation.
